Restaurant Carpet Tips and Grease Removal

Eric Dyer

What do you know about restaurant carpets?

Most are made of fibers created from recycled plastic soda bottles. These fibers are stain-resistant and don’t require chemical cleaning. Additionally, they retain their color, resist sun fading and have exceptional strength and durability compared to nylon yarns.

Maintenance: Heavy traffic areas should be vacuumed daily, with a professional vacuum, and steam cleaned (hot water only) every 6-12 months.

Installation Tips: Do not install carpet near entrances or areas where moisture and organic matter can contaminate them. All carpet fibers are excellent mediums for dust mites and microbial agents, especially if wet so always use walk-off mats at entrances. Lastly, only buy pretreated antimicrobial carpets.

Removing Grease Stains

  • Blot up as much of the grease as possible. Don’t rub, it will set the stain
  • Sprinkle dry baking soda on the stain and allow it to sit ~15-minutes. The longer the better.
  • Use a bristle brush and work the baking soda towards the center of the stain in one way passes from the outside in.
  • Vacuum the area and repeat the process.

Most importantly, do not apply any soaps or degreasers as they will continue to pull the stain to the surface after every time you scrub it and think you have it cleaned.

Kescor does not clean carpets, but we do clean restaurant hoods, equipment, walls, and ceilings. Give us a call today!
